websites, but there is also so much to do and see to keep everyone happy! From
spending lazy days sunbathing on stunning beaches to visiting a wide range of astonishing
tourist attractions, you seriously won’t be stuck for things to do.
When going on holidays to Lanzarote, you must try and check
out local events and festivals, as they are so much fun and the majority of
them are FREE of charge. Below is a look into what 2014 has to offer.
Lanzarote Wine Run
& Traditional Cuisine Festival
If you happen to be visiting this island on the 15th
June, make sure that you check out the ‘Lanzarote Wine Run & Traditional
Cuisine Festival’. If you love running and drinking wine, then this event is
for you! It is a race that covers 21 km and starts at the wineries in La Geria.
La Geria is a volcanic winemaking area where visitors go to taste wine and
where local produce is made by the best chefs on the island. If you like wine,
but running isn’t your cup of tea, you can alternatively sign up for the 11 km
walk. For more information: www.lanzarotewinerun.com
Corpus Christi &
San Juan Festival
Going on budget holidays to Lanzarote during the 23rd
and 24th June? Then make sure you attend this festival. A feast is prepared in recognition to Corpus
Christi and the Arrecife and Haría streets are beautifully decorated with
colourful salt. When the sun sets, the island isn’t plunged into darkness, as this
is when the San Juan is in full swing, which celebrates the midsummer by
bonfires being lit all around the island. For more information: www.turismolanzarote.com
San Ginés
For those embarking on holidays to Lanzarote nearer the end
of the summer, make sure you visit the San Ginés festival, which takes part 12th
– 25th August. San Ginés is the islands patron saint and festivals
celebrate his existence at many points of the island, but in particular the Arrecide
area. During these festivals you can enjoy live music, a fair, food stalls and fireworks!
There is also a sailing event carried out for the same celebration and called ‘The
San Ginés International Regatta’. Known as the islands oldest event, the race covers
111 nautical miles, where entrants travel between Las Palmas in Gran Canaria
and Arrecife in Lanzarote. For more information: www.turismolanzarote.com
Our Lady Of Los
Dolores
You may think budget holidays are hard to
stick to when actually there. Well if you stick to events that are free you can
make sure that you are not going over budget! ‘Our Lady Of Los Dolores’ is a pilgrimage
and festival! 15th September the island sees thousands of people
setting off from several points all over the island and finally meeting in Tinajo
(near Teguise) at noon, when there is of course some eating and drinking –it wouldn’t
be a festival if not! The event is bought to an end when the procession, involving
carts pulled by camels and donkeys, departs on a journey to the Mancha Blanca
chapel. For more information: www.turismolanzarote.com
So what are you waiting for? If you want an experience that
you will remember for a life time make sure you check out holidays to Lanzarote and go
to the many festivals and events happening across the island.
